Hi,

My name is Rasha Al Jundi, I am a Palestinian visual storyteller, currently based in Nairobi, Kenya. My father is from Yatta town, El Khalil (Hebron) district and my mother is from Beit Dajan, Yafa district. Both regions are among the richest ones when it comes to applying and wearing Palestinian tatreez or embroidery. So, I grew up observing then partaking in applying the craft together with the maternal figures on both sides of my family. Gazaleh is my great maternal grandmother and I chose her story as a starting point to honor my maternal figures who passed this beautiful and vital part of our heritage down to me.

Having lived in the African continent for more than a decade now, I chose to combine Palestinian tatreez with fabrics from different African contexts. Traditional tatreez and fabrics tell stories of deeply rooted communities who are deeply rooted in their lands, culture and heritage. They also provoke thinking around colonialism, appropriation and theft that Palestinians share with many in the Global South.

My intention is to share those stories with you.
