An intruder is somebody who enters illegally into a building or property without permission. Mostly with the intent of committing a crime. An intruder detector is a device meant to automatically detect the presence of an intruder. Such devices come with an alarm system for sounding a warning when an intrusion is detected. This project report provides information on how to design and construct a five-way intruder detector device. ABSTRACT This project work is on the construction of a 5-way intruder detection system using laser light technology. It is basically an automated surveillance security device. It is capable of monitoring unauthorized access to restricted entrances/exits. The device owner can pay attention to other things due to a unique feature, which is the “install and forget” feature. This implies that the device operates with little or no supervision after installation. The methodology adopted in achieving the project module is “intrusion barrier” whereby a light beam from a transmitter creates an invisible light barrier with its receiver. Thus, the module becomes activated whenever there is a disturbance/interruption across the ray of a coherent light beam (laser) from the transmitter to the receiver. The project can be applied in homes, offices, banks etc requiring intrusion detection. PROBLEM STATEMENT Most low-cost intrusion detection systems work as singular systems. Thus, monitoring multiple points will require installing several independent units. This can be chaotic having to tackle monitoring the individual devices. Thus there arises the need for a centralized low-cost system that allows monitoring of several intrusion detectors from a central point. Such a system should be able to centralize all of the information from the individual detectors into a single monitoring base. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this paper is to discuss the construction work of a prototype security system that is capable of detecting intrusion and alerting the owner of the intrusion. The project construction objective is to: To construct a circuit that detects unauthorized movement through intrusion barrier motion sensing The circuit can be used to trigger an alarm circuit based on whether an intrusion detection status SCOPE OF THE PROJECT WORK ﻿The scope of this paper is to develop a low-cost intruder detector system capable of detecting 5 intrusions. For this project it is designed to meet the following scope; A movement will be detected by optical barrier interruption Transmitter and receiver beam operates on line-of-sight A centralized detectors monitoring dashboard This project is basically a multi-entrance alarm with position indicators; this project is modified at the input such that sensors are used in place of manually operated switches in the electronic alarms and the use of digital displays in place of LEDs as intrusion indicators. The receiver only activates the audio signaling unit when the laser beam is blocked while the digital display unit shows the particular entrance from which the intrusion took place.
