One candlelit evening in the 17th century, a Japanese rice trader Munehisa Homma was feeling quite creative, probably under the influence of some rice ouzo came up with an idea that somehow he can translate rice market prices into candlestick shapes. After all looking and trying to memorize all price moves in numbers wasn't that practical, 
especially when he was creative.
All those years in the west they stick with line and bar charts, until guy named Steve Nison introduced to the rest of the world. He made a career out of it. I hear sometimes some people calling him as candlestick guy.
I intend to put together few articles going through most of the useful candle patterns over the coming days and weeks. Lets start with the basics for the benefits of those who are new to all this candle patterns stuff.

Forex for Beginners

This is a forex system based solely on reading the price action. It is a trend following system that focuses on points in the market where the trend is about to change its direction, enters the market trying to ride the newly formed trend all the way to its finish line. Price Charts with a Time Base
These three chart types are commonly plotted with a time base. It means that each data point on the chart comes from a fixed time period. For instance, if the time base is daily, each data point will represent price level(s) of each trading day. The charts below show the 5-minute time-frame.
Study of price charts began before technology was able to send market (tick) data instantaneously. Building charts with continuous price data was not possible. Hence, charts with a time base have become the standard in technical analysis.

How to trade with Price Action

Price action represents collective human behaviour. Human behaviour in 
the market creates some specific patterns on the charts. So price action 
trading is really about understanding the psychology of the market using 
those patterns. Thats why you see price hits support levels and bounces 
back up. Thats why you see price hits resistance levels and heads down.

The Ultimate Price Action Trading

This material assumes the reader has knowledge of basic functionalities of the market or markets he wants to trade. Things like “how to open up a trade”, “how to switch between timeframes” on your trading platform, “how trading with leverage works”, “what is a futures contract”, “what stocks are best to trade and why” or “what is a forex pair and which are best to trade” will not be covered in this material. With minimal effort, you can find all this basic information freely on the internet and, to be honest, it will probably be better organized and explained than my version of the same. I will be focusing solely on technical analysis with price action alone. If you have read one of my books before you are aware of the fact that I do not like to write just for the sake of writing.
